Abstract

In this research, we endeavor to conduct an analysis of a social issue utilizing Fairclough's critical discourse analysis methodology. To this end, we have chosen to focus on Behzisti's (Iranian welfare organization) perspective on working children by selecting the text of ''The Regulations for the Organization of Working and Street Children'' from the year 2004.

Within Fairclough's approach to critical discourse analysis, the analytical process commences with the examination of the text itself. "Text," in this context, serves as the point of origin, acting as a mediator of social matters and a representation of the ideological-discursive order. In other words, each text is produced or gains meaning only within a specific discourse context, and simultaneously, each text contributes to the reproduction of a particular discourse. Consequently, the scientific study of social policy would be lacking without such a foundational framework. Hence, we aim to elucidate the significance of this methodology in its application to the analysis of the welfare organization's regulations concerning working children.

The outcomes of this research not only reveal the inter-discursive aspects within the welfare organization but also strive to explicate the governing discourse shaping the text and elucidate its representation. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that without such an analysis, the essential semantic context required for the study of the target text is not provided.
