There has been no independent research on the relationship between academic field and political participation in general, and electoral participation in particular, and electoral preference in particular. The issue of which fields are more active in politics has been studied by researchers who have not reached the same conclusion. These studies rarely refer to the mechanisms of influence and examine and analyze the effect of education as the effect of the university. This article seeks to examine this issue. The research method of the article is a comparative within-country method. Considering the statistical information on the academic field in 2011, we selected the presidential elections of 2009 and 2013 for study and research. An analysis of the contemporary history of Iran and the academic fields of ministers and members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly shows that engineers and students of technical and engineering, law, and medicine are more active in politics than other fields. The results of the research tests showed:
1. Academic fields A. Engineering, production, and construction and B. Social sciences, commerce and law participate more in elections and the academic fields A. Educational Sciences and B. Humanities and Arts C. Services and D. Health and Welfare (welfare) participate less.
2. The academic fields A. Engineering, Production and Construction, B. Humanities and Arts have a conservative tendency and A. Social sciences, commerce and law and B. Educational Sciences have a reformist tendency.
3. There is no specific relationship between the academic fields of mathematics and agriculture with electoral participation and preference.
