Iran has cultural diversity on the one hand, and on the other hand, there is a colorful intertwining in this diversity; in such a way that sometimes drawing a boundary between these diversities is very difficult and even impossible. This cultural intertwining of Iranians can have many reasons, one of which is immigration.
Mazandaran province has been the destination of many immigrants and exiles over the past two centuries; whether during the Qajar period, for example, when groups of Kurds were moved to this province for control, or Azeri who migrated to this province from the Pahlavi period onwards to work, or the relatively widespread immigration from all over Iran to this province in the last decade due to the favorable climate. One of these groups is the Azeri from Mianeh, who have migrated and settled in Nowshahr for about five decades. This study was conducted to measure the degree of solidarity or separation of this immigrant group from the natives of Nowshahr.
The research data collection method was based on in-depth interviews with 18 Azeri people of Nowshahr. The results of this study, using Barth's theory of ethnic groups and borders, have shown that, Azeri people living in Nowshahr have a coherent and regular organization,, and, several factors have influenced the formation of this organization and its maintenance and strengthening. Among the most important factors influencing this organization are the attachment to the homeland and mother tongue on the one hand and the feeling of discrimination on the other.
