The aim of this study is to examine the basic sources of student identity and the intervening level of triple identities including religious, national and modern ones. The axial research question is twofold: first, what sources caused students' identities to be made; second, what is relationship between identity-making sources? To provide an answer to these questions, the relevant literature including symbolic interaction, and other theories at micro and micro levels reviewed to make a theoretical framework. Methodologically, an important research question is concerned to the fact that what is identity itself. The research strategy is inductive using survey research method. The Tehran University' student constituted the research statistical population. The data was gathered from 380 students. This sample size was estimated through sampling method particularly using stratified sampling technique. Hence, a stratum of paradises of social sciences, technical and art faculties was identified to choose the research sample. All of research data was collected using a structured questioner. The findings indicate that identical sources of the students are multiple and none of them can be reduced to one another. In other words, the identity of the students is a sort interactive and intervening rather than interrupting. This means that a variety of identity-forming resources that all have a contributing role in constituting identity foundation. That is, everybody places many belonging in his/her being, according different changing circumstances. These belongings can be global, national, ethnical, and regional and so on. Of course sexual, occupational and class belongings can be also regarded important.
