1960s and 1970s are among critical eras in contemporary Iran. During this time theater specifically developed with rapid pace and expanded new discourses in society. This new cultural factor was in itself an intellectual symbol and one of its main issues was the role of intellectuals in changing the society. The plays written by Akbar Radi are the very example of this subject. This essay considers ideology in Althusserian sense and regarding the analysis of conditions of production in Eagleton's theory, different ideologies present at that era, and the social-political situation of Iran in 60's and 70's, examines three plays by Radi. These plays have very unique perspective on intellectual's role in society. What we mean by intellectual is what Pierre Bourdieu wrote: commitment and teaching. Despite many differences in form and subject, all of the mentioned plays have concerns regarding the function of intellectual as an antagonist in society and his role in making people aware of their situation. These plays show this role very challenging in this essay wants to study this very challenge. specifically developed with rapid pace and expanded new discourses in society. This new cultural factor was in itself an intellectual symbol and one of its main issues was the role of intellectuals in changing the society.
