This research aims to explain urban trauma with a special focus on social and individual factors affecting the trauma in motorcycle drivers’ accidents. Studies in this field show car and especially motorcycle accidents are the most important factors of trauma in Iran and specifically in Tehran. Research literature shows that most of the studies in this field, first of all, have a positivist and individualistic perspective, and moreover they neglect the effect of structural factors in social subjects’ behavior and at last impose artificial concepts to analyze meaning of subjects’ actions. Therefore, for understanding the trauma with having an eye on structural and individual factors and from the viewpoint of subjects, we chose grounded theory as our method. This research includes 20 in-depth interviews with traumatized motorcycle drivers and 2 police officers. In order to complete research data, we used field and observational methods too.
Regarding the effect of unequal distribution of social capitals on the behavior that results trauma, policy making should aim to overcome social inequalities in order to reduce the accidents of motorcycles.
